We’ve all done it. Spent hundreds of dollars on an overrated, high-end product only to find your pulls are worth less than the wrapping on the box. Eventually, most of us accept our loss and move on. What I have learned from my years of collecting is that one man’s trash is another’s treasure and on the Internet everyone collects someone. What this particular collector is trying to pull is interesting, though.
What you have below is a triple patch card featuring 80′s stars Jose Canseco, Bo Jackson, and Don Mattingly. All three guys have their fans who will kill me for this but let’s face facts … all three of these guys were under-achievers and/or didn’t reach their potential due to injuries. There is nothing wrong with that. Not every young star becomes Albert Pujols. Baseball greatness is not easy to handle and maintain.
What cracks me up about this card is that the seller is asking for $899 dollars on eBay because the card recently sold for $850. I know what you are thinking, what moron would pay that much for three baseball washouts and tiny patches? The answer is no one. Not even the biggest Canseco Nut. You see, the card that sold was only similar because it came from Upper Deck’s Exquisite brand.
That’s where the similarities end. For starters, it features just one player. You may have heard of him? Cal Ripken Jr. You know, Mr. Iron Horse. Mr. Hall of Fame. Mr. Never Got Caught Cheating. None of these three guys will ever make it into the Hall of Fame without paying full admission. And no one in their right mind would pay anywhere close to the asking price for the card below.
You can check out the Cal Ripken Jr. here.
